November 12-14, 2009- Al Ghurair Foods launches diabetes awareness campaign on World Diabetes Day 2009

On the occasion World Diabetes Day, Al Ghurair Foods will be organizing a three day campaign to promote healthy eating practices and diabetes awareness initiatives from the 12th to the 14th of November 2009.

An array of fun filled activities welcomed the visitors of Al Ghurair City. This includes a drawing competition for children, a quiz competition on diabetes awareness, eating healthy food and enhancing the levels of nutrition, spot competitions where winners can take home exciting prizes. The importance of choosing the right food ingredients in our daily cooking will also be highlighted on this occasion.

According to Sameera Fernandes, PR & Communication Manager, Al Ghurair Foods, “The core objective of this initiative is to enhance the awareness levels of diabetes through activities for the entire family. We are mainly promoting diabetes awareness in order to reduce the incidence levels of diabetes in the UAE community. This campaign represents our commitment to strive better for the well being of the community and to promote public health.”

Fighting diabetes is a crucial aspect of the UAE’s national strategy. Diabetes is becoming the disease of the century in the UAE and is more common among adolescents, due to unhealthy nutritional habits and lack of exercise. Sedentary lifestyle and incorrect nutrition lead to overweight or obesity, which are among the main risk factors. Diabetes-related heart problems accounts for 31.6 percent of deaths in the UAE, making diabetes the nation’s biggest killer, according to the Ministry of Health Hence, on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, the importance and benefits of Jenan Diabetics’ Flour will also be highlighted.
