  • Al Ghurair City witnesses an increase in visitors in the first week of DSS

    Dubai, 10th July, 2007: Retailers at Al Ghurair City, the first shopping mall in the Middle East, have announced an increase in the number of visitors during first week of Dubai Summer Surprises. Al Ghurair City, a key sponsor in this year’s DSS has rolled out an exciting range of activities to take place during the festivities. In addition, shoppers spending a minimum of Dhs 200 at any of the over 200 diverse retail outlets at Al Ghurair City will receive a coupon to participate in weekly raffle draw to win up to Dhs 5 Million in 10 weeks.

    Retail outlets available at Al Ghurair City include a range of popular brand such as French Connection, Plug Ins Electronics, Mexx, Jashanmal, Paris Gallery, Esprit and Guess to name just a few; have all commented on the early success of DSS and the increase in visitors at Al Ghurair City.

    Sebastian De Souza, Chief Merchandise Manager, Jashanmal at Al Ghurair City has noted: “DSS contributes to around 25% of the annual sales. Without this event, the summer season we would have experienced a decrease in our sales figures. The event helps to increase business traffic in shops. Our unique selling point is that we specialize in all travel related products such as luggage and footwear.

    MEXX, Darek Barakat, Marketing Manager of the popular high street fashion clothing brand added: “Dubai Summer Surprises is vital for the retail industry's success during the summer period. Thanks to DSS, what should have been a very quiet shopping period during the summer has transformed Dubai into a dynamic and very successful shopping and tourist destination for all. The statistics speak for themselves. In less than a decade, the total spends and number of visitors has more than tripled to Dhs. 2.5 billion and 1.8 million respectively. This huge increase in these indicators can only mean that the majority of shops have benefited from what DSS has been able to accomplish”.

    Mohammed Aslam, Marketing Manager, Paris Gallery also said: “DSS has continued to grow as a result of a large number of visitors from Saudi Arabia, Oman, India, Russians and Europeans, in particular British nationals”.

    Mr. Salem Al Ghurair, Chief Executive Officer of Al Ghurair City added: “In the first week of DSS, we have already experienced an increase in the number of visitors, with many arriving from neighboring countries in the GCC. The activities taking place at the mall cater to families but also to individual shoppers. We expect the numbers to increase further contributing to another successful year”.

    With such a wide range of activities tailored to suit all preferences as well as bargains for all shoppers combined with a strong partnership with DSS, no doubt Al Ghurair City will experience an increase in visitors from across the region as well as from key markets.

    Events planned during Dubai Summer Surprises include the Heritage Surprises (21st of June to 27th of June), Food Surprises (28th of June to 4th of July), Comedy Surprises ( 5th of July to 11th of July), Adventure Surprises ( 12th of July to 18th of July), Nature Surprises ( 19th of July to 25th of July), Cartoon Surprises ( 26th of July to 1st of August), Global Surprises (2nd of August to 8th of August), Knowledge Surprises ( 9th of August to 15th of August). Flower Surprises (16th of August to 22nd of August) and the Art Surprises (23rd of August to 31st of August).
